I used to have an ambition that my mom was totally against. I wanted to be an air stewardess and see the world for free. My mind was all set up to lead the jet-set life and be the SIA girl that I always see on television.

Of course at a tender age of nine, I wanted to be a lot of things as well. I wanted to be a teacher, a lawyer, a dentist and even a medical assistant like a nurse for example. The last one nearly became true after I finished my “A” levels exams and did not quite managed to make it to university. I was searching for career options and somehow at that time medical assistant programs were the rage. Everyone I knew was taking it and medical assistant careers are an honorable one. I thought my path was set. I started looking at medical assistant training programs available and started to fill up the application form until.. my mom stepped in. Again that path was stunted. She did not want me to be nurse and that was it. Now I was and still am, a very obedient daughter so that was it.

I took up a secretarial course and that was the start of a wonderful career that I will not exchange for anything else. As always mom knows best.

Ever wonder why 26th December is called “Boxing Day”? I don’t but in case someone knows, please share with us..lolzz..

Anyway, the day started late, after 1pm actually. The luxury of no kids and hubby being self-employed. We took the car and went for lunch. We planned to renew hubby’s motorbike’s insurance and road tax after that but upon talking about it over lunch we decided to take the bike instead coz we needed to park the car very far from the insurance place and me no like that.

So we head on home, grabbed motorbike’s keys and helmet and off we went again. After getting the insurance, we rode on to JPJ to renew the bike’s RM2.00 road tax (ah life is wonderful) and my driving licence. We reached JPJ around 3.30pm and would you believe they ran out of queue numbers to renew driving licence! Boy, was I pissed coz now I got to renew at the post office. However hubby got his road tax done and off we went to Al-Rajhi bank next to get a savings account done to transfer my paypal earnings. Wohooo, I will get to spend my money soon!..but little did I know my withdrawal got to wait a few more days lahh… you can read about my little adventure here.

All in all, a day well spent.

Oh by the way.. Happy Birthday Shan!!…

How often do you call your mom? I call mine every other day using my, coz it’s cheaper lah, whenever she’s home that is. My mom is one of those independent ladies that will just up and go whenever she feels like it. Being alone helped I guess, coz she does not need to answer to anyone since my dad passed away in 1992. She’s my best friend, she’s my pillar of strength and she’s my mom. I will never stop being proud of her. Despite not having any formal education, she’s holding her head up high in a society of literate people.

Speaking of calling, have you heard of this website that carries 459 different phone cards from all major vendors for users to choose from? The site is like a shopping mall for phone cards. The best is you get to buy it online. Too bad though they don’t carry top-up cards for our local carriers. Oh well…

I got this cute poem in my mail today and truly believe if any hubby or boyfriend were to say this to you ladies, all I can say is, he had it coming..lolzz

He didn’t like the steak I made
And he didn’t like my cake.

He said my biscuits were too hard
Not like his mother used to make.

I didn’t prepare the coffee right
He didn’t like the stew,

I didn’t mend his socks
The way his mother used to do.

I pondered for an answer
I was looking for a clue.

Isn’t there anything I could do
To match his mothers shoe

Then I smiled as I saw the light
One thing I could definitely do

I turned around and slapped him tight…
Like his mother used to do!!!!!

I have a lover few lovers.

I must confess and I feel so guilty. My hubby also knows about it but he’s not saying anything. Not yet anyway. I know I’m wrong coz I spend so much time with my lovers and I can’t bear to part with them. It’s the first and the last thing I think about every day. Sometimes, I even dream about it in my sleep and I know my hubby noticed. It’s a matter of time before he says something and then what do I do? Even when I am at his office, I can’t stay away and I sneak my way to it whenever I can. So efficient was his Uplogic Envoy appliance that I hardly noticed the mean time to recovery the system took whenever he did to perform any maintenance to the network system.

I need to take it easy. I need to slow down.. I need to… cut down down on the number of blogs I have….lolzz… what did you think I was talking about!…get your mind out of the gutter ya….lolzz

As much as I loved the Christmas tree application, my gifts and the snow at LJL, I had to remove all of them as they slowed down the loading of my blog. I had some of my readers who are on dialup writing to me to remove them so they can continue coming here.

I had some really beautiful, thoughtful and gorgeous gifts from all of you and for that I am thankful and feel really blessed.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

The last time my mom and I sold our HDB (Housing Development Board of Singapore) unit in Singapore, we nearly had a heart attack from the hassle that our housing agent gave us. We had an idea of how much the market price of the unit was based on the HDB valuation report and also based on how much our neighbour, who, at time just sold his unit as well, got. So also basing on our own renovation work we decided on a figure which we thought was fair. Our agent did not say anything about the price and started marketing the unit.

Two weeks passed by and yet no viewing by potential home buyers were arranged. We were a bit disturbed by this as we knew our area was a “hot and wanted” spot in Singapore and at least ONE viewing was the least we expected after two weeks of marketing. After the third week, I called the agent up and it seemed the agent was only going to show the unit to potential buyers that was willing to pay the price that we wanted. I was infuriated. I mean, our price was always negotiable. I was beginning to wonder who trained this agent? And what was worse, we signed an exclusive with the company that she represented for three months! At the rate she was going we would never sell my house.

To make a long story short and to also spare you the heartache that both me and my mom suffered, suffice to say, she did not sell the unit for us. We waited till the exclusive contract ended, and found another agent that managed to sell the unit in two weeks time. Yes, we did not get the price we wanted but it was good enough an offer to accept.

As I count my blessings, I am amazed at God’s kindness to my family. We have so much time to be together as a family in 2007, meet some old friends and family, start blogging and make new friends, and even given a chance to meet 2 blog buddies personally. We also visit some great places and have the best holidays we’ve ever had. Clay and Cliff are healthy, hubby and me has been given some opportunities to serve Him in some ministries. When I was growing up, I’ve not had any friend or anyone I know got pregnant before they were married. Now however, it seems like it is the most normal thing that can happen to anyone and any family. I guess to each its own but what saddens me if when I think of teenagers getting pregnant and having babies when they themselves are babies. Most recently that is in the limelight over this issue is Britney Spears’s sixteen years old sister who got pregnant and claimed that she was surprised. Girl, I got news for you, when you dance to the reproduction tune, you’ll reproduce!

Anyway friends, take the fun survey below and shares your views on the matter.

Psst: I get paid if you do the survey, you can too.. let me know if you are interested and I’ll send you an invite :-)

After a few days of home stay due to both me and hubbs being sick and all, we had to go out and get some fresh air. We’ve been eating “sick food” coz both of us did not have any appetite to eat but since we needed to take our medication, we needed to fill our tummy first. Our main fortification was porridge and bread. Both quick, both instant!

So now you know why we needed to go out!. Besides hubby also got to get some parts for the washing machine pipe outlet that was giving problems and causing my laundry to pile up.

Anyway, we had a quick late lunch and bought some Putu Piring to go. As both of us are still woozy, we decided to just head on home after that. And so, that end my blog entry for today…hehhehe..

Here’s wishing A Happy Aidil Adha to one and all..

Yesterday was a holiday here in Selangor to celebrate the Sultan’s birthday. As in other public holiday, I don’t really pay much attention to them coz I work from home and hubby can pretty much take time off anytime. The luxury of working for oneself!

Anyway we decided to send the car for repair (a long over-due process). Seriously it’s not our fault but rather the mechanics fault. You see, our car is a Citroen and being a continental car, not many mechanics would know or even want to repair it. So we’ve been sending it to this place over in Ampang and this fella keep saying that he can’t find the part that we needed to replace. And because of that we don’t dare to drive the car over a long distance because the engine will overheat and you know what happens to the engine when it gets overheated right?

Recently though hubby found out about this place near Batu Caves (thank you AAM) that specialised in repairing continental car like Citroen and Renault. Now this fella said “yeap sir, we have the part, you want first hand or second hand?”…We both looked at each other and like “What? Got option some more!”

So anyway, we got the part replaced today and changed the air-con something (don’t know what’s its called..hehe)… filled in some aircon gas and we are good to go!

However, when hubby was doing the aircon thing over at Melawati, I sneaked next door to the RM1.99 shop. OMG! I’m in heaven. Everything’s at RM1.99.. Crazy!.. I ended up buying items which cost me close to RM50 and am now too embarrased to show them to you..lolzz.. I don’t have disclipine, I tell you!

Overall good but tiring day.. even got hubby’s paperwork in order for the government’s official visit tomorrow or today lah.. it’s already 12th December right??!…lolzz

During my last trip back to SG, I had a lots of time to spend time with relatives. My mom made sure we had plenty to do and visiting relatives was among one of them. It was fun catching up with my aunts and cousins and the nieces and nephews that have all grown up to be young men and ladies. In fact, some of them had babies of their own! (wah.. I so old already mah??)

It was especially great as I had the opportunity to meet up with a cousin of mine with whom I spent countless board games with when I was growing up. You know the likes of Scrabble, Monopoly and Checkers. It was fun reminiscing those good old days when we will squabble over who owns what and double score words. One game, however, that we never really played was BackGammon and upon spying one on her son’s shelf, we decided to give it a try. We did not know where to start but I remembered an online site that I’ve chanced upon before, that explained the rules and tips on how to play the game right. So after introducing her to all my blogs (hehe), we proceeded to the online backgammon site.

We both found the site useful and very informative. Like I said before, the site helped us to understand the game better and guess what, we found out that besides being able to download the game to play it offline, you can even earn money from this site by playing the game online.

So after spending some time at the site and feeling confident about the game, we proceeded with playing the game offline first. We messed up a bit but most importantly we both had the time of our life.

Now that I’m back home, this backgammon online site is definitely worth a revisit…join me??

All of us will grow old someday. This is a reality that none of us can dispute and run away from. It lurks in the future reminding us that it’s there and its happening whether we like it or not. That our body will grow weak, we will not be as strong as before and we will be dependent on the children to do the things that we once were able to do. Just like what we are doing now for our parents.

Somehow sometimes that is not the case. A lot of kids nowadays are “washing” their hands off their parents the moment they get married or are too busy to care for them. Their parents are considered a burden that needed to be looked after until their last breath. That is why in certain places of the world, parents are given the opportunity to claim “parents support” from their kids. Yet, because these parents are so understanding, they refuse to even take advantage of the system that was designed to give them a better old age. Such is a parent love.

Although I would never consider sending my mom to any nursing homes, I believe it is the better alternative than leaving an aged and sickly parent home alone to take care of themselves. At least there, they would be taken care of professionals that is especially trained to take care of the aged.

What do you think? Is it the better choice?

Being Singaporean, we are really spoiled. Very rare occasion do we experience “no-water” supply. Although most of us live in flats and get our water supply from that huge water tank on top, we (or I) have never had a moment when there is no water supply, without prior notice, that is. So, as naive as I am, when we moved into this condo unit, basically a flat lah, I thought it would be the same thing. Boy, was I wrong. Not only are we being a charge a hand and a foot for our water supply, we also found out that if anything were to happen to the water tank up there, we would be “water-less” until something got done.

So far, the two years that we’ve been living here, we had to go water-less two times. I’ve blogged about it once before and the most recent happened tonight. We just got home from my IL’s anniversary dinner and it was too hot to shower, so we both thought we rest a while cooling down with a cup of hot cocoa (special offer going on – the brand “Super” has Cocoa with Tongkat Ali and Misai Kucing and with every pack you get a free umbrella. The pack only worth RM12.90 – but I digress).

Anyway, when we were in the lift, we heard this “waterfall” sound and upon reaching our floor, we peeped down from the corridor and noticed that the third floor was basically flooded. We thought nothing of it until around 10pm when we heard the “waterfall” stopped. Again, we thought it was nothing until I decided it was time for shower and went to kitchen to place my mug at the sink, turned on the tap and “Arghhhh!!!”…. NO WATER!!!.. Then only we sort of put two and two together and figured someone must have called the maintenance people and they must have shut down the supply to fix the problem – hence the “waterfall” stop. We found out later that the culprit was a water pipe that had burst.

To make a long story short, we were waterless from 10pm to 1am (although it seemed like eternity). After hubby’s short talk with the maintenance man, I also found that our water supply had to travel from the topmost floor down to the ground floor and then travel back up again to whichever floor is calling. Weird right? I thought it would travel from the tank straight to the requesting pipe outlet. Oh well, you learn something new everyday!..lolz..

The water supply still comes in squirts now and sometimes it’s cloudy and dark, so I’m postponing my shower for a few more hours I guess, while hubby calls me “his assam girl” – translated to mean… “sour girl??” heheehh…

You know I love being able to type fast. It’s one of the skill that I’ve always wanted to pick up when I was in school and so when I actually went to take up secretarial studies and was able to pick up the skill, I was so damn happy that now I would not only be able to type fast but also not need to look at the keyboard.

Throughout the years then, that skill was taken for granted. It became automatic like breathing and eating. However, one thing that came out of it was, the faster you type and the faster you think, the more spelling error you make. I tend to miss out in between words. I also tend to misspell “the” and “and”.

I found I was not alone. A few blogger friends of mine have the “problem” as well.. Just take a look at this screencapture..

If that don’t deserve an award, I don’t know what does…hehehhe, ..where before I awarded it to GK for the Best Male Speller Award, this time the winner for the Best Female Speller Award goes to…
