When I was in my secondary three, I was sent to the science stream. Our subjects included,  English, Malay, Geography, Religious Knowledge, Elementary and Additional Math, Biology, Physics and Chemistry. Apart from English, there wasn’t really any subjects that I really loved but I do know that Chemistry and Physics were not my strongest subjects. I mean imagine memorizing the periodic table! Yikes!!!.. and Physics, well it was such a “Boyish” subject for me.. lol!

So, naturally I didn’t excel in either subject and I always desperately need help with Chemistry and Physics Problems and when my beloved tutor, my Physics problem solver helped me with the Physics Answers, it still didn’t make sense to me. The poor dear never gave up though and through sheer perseverance on her side and a lot of late nights, I managed to score a meager grade of C6, not good but at least I didn’t fail the paper ;)

I’m not sure if I could have excel with online tutor site like the one they have over at TutorVista but I know for sure that they would have been 24hour support for me if I ever needed one and that could make a lot of difference in a young girl’s mind. So if you have kids struggling with subjects, check them out and for an economical fee monthly, you can be assured that your kids have the best tutor there is available out there.

I leave you now with another periodic table… but this time it’s for fun eh.. no need to memorize.. ;)

Per my previous post, you know I was looking for health insurance quotes. Well, I came across Blue Cross Blue Shield NC. I’m really impressed by the policies they have there. They have so many to choose from and they even have Dental Insurance, where you can just go to any dentist you choose and coverage include routine check-ups, diagnostic or preventive services, from teeth cleaning to extractions to even dentures!Too bad they are not available here in Malaysia, otherwise they’ll be on my shortlist for sure!

I wonder how much my premium would be if I were to get health insurance right now. It makes sense seeing how medical cost has gone up so much. I have a substantial amount in my medisave account in Singapore but I can only use that if I was hospitalized in Singapore only, which I think is pretty dumb, but that’s the rules. The last time I was hospitalised  for my fibroid removal, it cost me a hefty RM10,000 which we had to pay from our own pocket. I hope to never do that again, hence the need to get some insurance quotes soon.

I have been asked numerous times by clients who wished to know how to revamp/add/delete their labels or categories for their blog post in blogger blog. So I thought, where better than to just put it here at LadyJava’s Lounge so that you, my readers, might benefit too.

Firstly, think of label as a filing system. A generic filing system. So you would label this post for instance as Blogger Tutorial and/or Blogging but you would NOT label it as Remove Labels or Add labels.. See the difference? Labels make it easier for visitors to navigate around your blog so unless your blog is all about the different kinds of flowers (Jasmine, Rose, Lilies), a label call FLOWERS would suffice.

Also please remember, labels are being controlled by the post, so you can’t delete the labels but once a no post bears that label, that label would disappear from your list. So essentially, you are amending your blog post label and not vice versa.

Here goes..

  1. Go to your blogger dashboard and click on “EDIT POST”
  2. On the left side of the table, you will see labels and the number of post that has that label on it. On the right side you will see post with the labels being displayed in green next to it
  3. Go through all your labels and decide what you want to do and how you want to categorized your post. If you see a label with just one post, decide if you need that label or can you class it under an existing label.
  4. Now click on any label.
  5. On the right hand side now, all post relating to the label would be displayed.
  6. Click in the square right next to all the post you want to change. I would suggest at this time to click one first.
  7. Now, do you noticed the dropdown menu just on top of the table? Click on the arrow and scroll down inside this box, you will see..

    Dropdown Menu

    The Dropdown Menu

    • Apply Label” in bold. This is all the labels that is available at your blog. So if you want to add an existing label to the post, just click the relevant label and it would be added to the post.
    • Scroll down further. Just before “Remove Label” you will see “New label” – this is what you click if you want to add a totally new label to the post
    • Right after that, you will see “Remove Label“. This is the label that is currently being used for that particular post and if you want to remove any labels from that post, just choose whichever label it is and click it
  8. Please remember all change are immediate the moment you click on a label. There is no prompt asking if you are sure of your action. Having said that, do not worry, you will not NEVER lose any post in your blog this way. The post would just be under a different label.

I hope this  helps and let me know if you find the tutorial useful :)

PS: More blogging tutorial from me…

It’s been a while since we went to A’s office. Ever since his mother has been sick, he has been working from either our apartment or his parents place. He even has clients sending pcs and laptop to the home directly so he doesn’t have to go the office.

Yesterday, we went down for a while to check out the situation at the office. Everything seems to be in order EXCEPT, a big ink stain on the floor. It seems an old worn out printer that a client had left behind to be repaired but ended up not being touched because it was too expensive for him, has leaked out ink. The printer was on a stack of newspaper, but the damaged was extreme so we probably have to use Anilox roll cleaner to try to get out the ink stain out!

Arghh… I hate irresponsible customer!

wedding

Our Wedding Day

Today marks ten years of wonderful marriage to a man I call Azwaj.

I still recall the day so vividly and I can remember to the very dot of what happened during the event. From our early morning solemnization at my in-laws house, the rain that graced our evening reception, the cake cutting ceremony and and that very long handshake with all the guest at the end of the night..lol! I loved it all and wouldn’t change a thing.

Anyway, we had not planned anything special. We never do. It’s just the two of us and we can do or not do whatever we want. I’m just gonna take my vitamins (no.. not prenatal vitamins)  and go to bed now and when we wake up.. we’ll think of something I’m sure..

Have a great day everyone! It’s night for the night owls here!

PS: Don’ t forget to get your entries in for my free blog makeover giveaway. The contest ends today at midnight!

We can’t help but take medication in our lives. We’re in pain, we pop two painkiller tablets and life goes on. We have problem skin that caused us heart pain and we take the most effective acne product in the market.

Like I say, such is life. However, not all this medication are good for us. Some are too good that no one actually the side effects till it’s too late. Take accutane side effects for instance. Accutane is known to remove the most difficult cases of acne by stopping all oil production leaving nothing for the body to work on. This, in the long run, cause dryness, joint pain, drying of the lips, nose, mouth and skin. In extreme cases, it can cause birth defects or even fetal death.

So, what I’m saying is although medicine has its pros, it also has its cons, so evaluate how much you actually need it in your life before it cause you more harm than good.

So, I survived today with no electricity at home. Wanna know how? I just SLEPT through it! ;) Besides I wasn’t feeling well so it was totally justified.. lol! And.. for me sleep IS a natural treatment for depression.

It’s raining cats and dogs now, which probably means I got to cook dinner in a bit. Who wants to leave the house in this kind of weather right?  Anyways, feeling like a little personality quiz right now so here’s what I took.. A very simple one that ask you choose which “scribble” you like best. I chose this one..and it says….

You Are Trustworthy

Of all the types, you are the most responsible and loyal. You take your duties seriously. (I am and I do)

You thrive when you are able to do something practical and productive. You hate to waste your time. (Oh so true!)

Some people say that you are a bit neurotic or cautious, but you believe it’s better to be safe than sorry. (My slogan)

You do your best to live a engaging and important life. You want what you do to matter. (Definitely!)

Share your results with me ok! Have fun!!

Oh No!!!

I just remembered that tomorrow certain blocks in our condominium would not be having electricity. :furious_tb: This is because TNB is doing some form of maintenance and they will NOT be providing any back-up generator. I’m not sure why that is so but we have been warned that there would not be any electricity supply from 11.00am to 6.00pm.

No electricity means no hot water shower (I can wait till evening to shower), no fan, no aircon and worst of all no pc and internet!!!  :wallbash_tb:

The best thing to do would be to leave the house and do some shopping for groceries, best acne medicine or even go to my inlaws..

Sigh..

Do we punish someone for making a mistake when they are young, ambitious and eager to have what life have to offer? I think not. All of us makes mistake in our life at one point of another and just like you and me, a young impetuous young man I know, made a very grave error in judgment when he was 22.

He just got a high paying job, somehow managed to secure a few credits and decided that he wanted to spend his hard earned money on things that he didn’t have before. He splurged, running over his credit limit most times but because he had a secure job that didn’t worry him and it didn’t worry the credit card company either.

falling-moneyThen one day, he did something that caused him to lose this high paying secure employment. With no job, a big balance on the credit card and a huge personal loan, he was turned a bankrupt within a year.

Do we blame him for spending over this head? We’ve done it too so who are we to judge?  However he found a new job and  he worked hard. He was able to pay off his debt and got his credit repair and  fix credit done. It didn’t take him overnight but he did it.

He learned his lesson and he turned that negative time into something more positive.  It wasn’t a great moment for him but now he is a better man because of it. Now that is the moral of the story :)

Social NetworkOn my wishlist now is a brand new phone. It seems like only yesterday I bought Miss VB but in actual fact, I’ve owned her for two years this July. She’s did get “sick” late last year but after sending her for repair, she’s as good as new. However, now I want to own a phone that has wifi features so I can be online even when I’m not in front of my pc. I’m so envious of people who are able to twitter online, check their FB account and now that this blog has a mobile version, I want to be able to view my blog on my mobile phone too even when I’m not at home!

Now, if I was in living in the States, I could have gone to check out for promo codes at Savings for some Verizon Wireless coupons or even Chegg coupon codes while I’m there, and potentially get discounts on my new phone and get some books in the process.. however, I’m not in the States so I reckon I got to wait for some mobile handphone sales to happen soon before getting one.

By the time that happens though, I may already be broke and that mobile phone could just be a mobile dream for me.. Sigh!!

Alas I just found out today that WordPress does not support the “textarea” command due to it’s security settings. So I had to find a plugin that allows me to highlight the codes for you guys to copy. I did find the plugin but unfortunately, you got to highlight the text manually inside the code, no more right click and select all :(

Anyways, this is not a hindrance for me of course. Am still loving wordpress and all it’s wonderful plugins and even thinking of moving yet another domain to the platform but can’t decide which one..heheh

Ok.. that’s that!..

strong wing

Strong Winds Can Make You Fly

The thing about old home is that it need lots of maintenance and with that in mind it is always good to have a good home insurance coverage.

One example is my home is Singapore. Even though my mom has only been living there for 10years, the actual age of the building is way more than that. Since the “actual” landlord is the housing development board in Singapore, who does a great job of maintaining the building,we don’t really have to worry about those issues.

However, inside the apartment is an altogether different matter. There was one instance when our neighbour downstairs complaint that our floor was leaking and that whenever my mom washes the kitchen floor, his whole kitchen gets flooded too! It seems both of us got to fork out the money to do the repairs as that was not covered by the HDB.  So definitely policies that are provided by say New York Home Insurance for instance, come in handy as such times!

You know it is a good thing that my mom stays in an apartment. At least I don’t have to worry about roof flying off in a strong winds, like what happened to my blog buddy, Emila, otherwise, I would really have to find out more about home insurance at the Insurance Information Institute! Poor Emila, those repairs would have cost her a bundle!

Have a great Sunday everyone!

Saturday, March 20, 2010

I spend almost every waking hour in front of my personal computer. There is simply so many things to be done online and I don’t only say that because I’m a full time blogger cum netpreneur. I say that because even now my father-in-law, who does not even have an email address, acknowledges what the internet brings. He constantly asked me or Azwaj to check out medical terms and even the details of drugs that the doctors give my mother-in-law who is recovering from lung cancer.

So if somehow like my FIL depends on the world wide web for information and knowledge, how about the kids nowadays. I know of some sites that provide online tutors for a variety of subjects like Algebra 1 and Algebra 2. These sites have professional tutors that can come up with Algebra 1 problems and Algebra 2 problems and find interesting way for students to come up with Algebra 1 answers and Algebra 2 answers as well…. and at USD99.99 a month for all subjects, students have access to tutors 24/7 to give them both Algebra 1 help and Algebra 2 help should the need arise.

What was it I was saying about the internet? Awesome ain’t it!

… when you are using JSKit (Echo) Patched template version (not the widget version they have now) and your blogger comment dashboard is showing 0 comments?  I am having a bit of joint pain today but I wanted to write this post before I really got to rest my wrist..

My blogger dashboard for this blog used to show me 0 comments on some post even though I know for a fact that there were comments there before. So when I actually moved to wordpress yesterday, I was ready to see 0 comments on my blog but… lo and behold there were comments on those post even though blogger dashboard was showing 0..

See the difference here? The same post is showing 0 comment on blogger on 15 March but showing 11 comments on wordpress dashboard yesterday.

zero comments

Post with 0 Comments

i love coffee

Post showing 11 Comments

Anyway I was surfing at Evan’s mom blog today and she highlighted a known problem with blogger about missing comments, so I thought it might be a glitch somewhere.  So here’s a way to check if your  comments are really missing or is it just not displaying comments on your dashboard.

First thing first, login into you JSKit dashboard and under commenting option, scroll down and check that your blog is set to synchronized  with blogger. If it is.. then good, you can proceed, if not.. then you probably REALLY don’t have comments at your blogger..:(

Ok.. so now if your comments are synchronized…

  • Go to your blogger layout>>edit html
  • MAKE A BACKUP OF YOUR BLOG and save it safely by “Download Full Template”.  *** DO NOT MISS THIS STEP ***
  • Scroll down to the bottom of the page and you will see

revert

Revert Widget

  • When you click this link, you will remove the JS from your template but you will also remove most customized widget that is included in your template
  • Now check that post that is showing 0 comments on your dashboard and see if there are any comments displaying on the blog post instead. If it’s there.. then you are save to revert back to your blogger commenting system..
  • PLEASE NOTE THAT SOME TEMPLATE GOES HAYWIRE WHEN YOU DO IT ESPECIALLY IF YOUR TEMPLATE IS VERY HEAVILY CUSTOMISED
  • If this happens, upload the backup template and all will be restore again together with your JSKit commenting system.

So the choice is up to you now..if your template does not go haywire after the removal widget process and if comments are there, then you switch back to blogger commenting system if you want to..

If your template goes  haywire.. then you can take note of which widget is causing the craziness and add that up to the template again.

Good luck!

One look and you may missed it. Two looks you might not noticed any difference either. However, if you were to comment on this blog, you noticed that I have Intense Debate commenting system installed here. You may think that I may have switch to ID after all and that I prefer it to the other two commenting system I have mentioned before. Well not necessarily true.  Now I can have ID, with it’s smileys and CommentLuv, simply because  I can, without any worries that I will lose my comments due to it’s not syncing with blogger.

Why and how?

WordPressThe why is because LadyJava’s Lounge have moved to it’s own hosting and blogging platform, from blogger to wordpress,  and the how is because ID have a plug in for WordPress that works beautifully, syncing to each other even when ID fails to load because of slow loading connection. So irregardless of you commenting on wordpress commenting system or ID commenting system, the comments would be intact on both platform!

After using blogger for a few years now on all my blogs, it is nice to change to something new. As I mentioned in my previous post, I like to keep my life interesting so blogging wise, this is it. I won’t be moving over all my blogs as I still love blogger and it’s simplicity but I am glad that I have made the decision to move my main blog, LJL , to the wordpress platform. I’m still tweaking here and there making it me but am pretty happy with the results so far. One drawback though, when I moved, the Google Friend “Follow” widget did not move with the blog as it was somehow attached to the blogspot address.. so if you guys still feel like following me around, please feel free to refollow using the widget here.  Everything is the same and it is still good ol’ LadyJava’s Lounge so don’t be coy and leave your comments and look around ya . (EDITED: I found a way to link up to my Google Friend Widget and got my followers back.. so Yeay! Thank you for following LJL)

On that note, I want to make three guesses for my BFF  Mariuca,  EC Giveaway!

  • A guessed 123,000
  • Smokey guessed  120,000
  • I guess 115,000

thinkingDo you sometimes noticed that the days just get more mundane each day? It’s all about doing the same stuff over and over again. I don’t know about you but I get bored easily and when I get bored, I get lazy.

It’s not easy to change lifestyle though especially if it is the one that you pick for yourself.  Like me for instance, I blog, I do my adgitize rounds and I do blog makeover. Apart from that, I’m a homemaker and I take care of five furkids. So there isn’t nothing I would  really change because I love it all. However, there are some things that I could change to make my life more interesting.

I could change the  living room around and fill it with log furniture for instance. Or I can decide to cook more as oppose to eating out all the time. I could cut my hair, I could get new glasses which I did and I could even stop being a night owl and live like a normal person!

I could but would I? That is the million dollar question for sure! :)

You are chic, worldly, and charming.

You naturally fascinating and popular. You never feel like pretending to be someone you’re not.

I’m seriously torn between three commenting system, JS-Kit, Disqus and Intense Debate.

I was a great JS-Kit fan and had it installed on all my blogs and raved about their services can customer service, but recently though, certain problems have arisen giving me cause to look at other blog commenting options namely Disqus and Intense Debate.

confused imageThese are the problems so far that I’ve encountered from JS-Kit:

  • The synchronizing with blogger comments are not consistent. Sometimes it does sync and sometimes it doesn’t, leaving my blogger dashboard with zero comments on some posts.
    • The synchronizing option of JSKit was the one drawing factor of JSKit for me. The fact that I won’t lose any comment in case I decide to switch back to my Blogger commenting system made me very confident of the program, hence the switch for all my blogs.
  • Recently with their “improved” follow option, blog owners are not getting notified of comments at their own blog even after changing the notification option on the JS dashboard.
    • This is definitely cause for worry as no notification means we won’t know if there are comments made on the blog. No notification means no response.. which, in my book is BAD

So like I said, I am looking for alternative and testing both Disqus and Intense Debate commenting system on some of my blogs.

To me, Disqus is good because it syncs up with blogger commenting system but bad it doesn’t support smileys and no CommentLuv. On the other hand although Intense Debate has smileys and Commentluv, it does not synch up with blogger.

Another plus point for Disqus is that although all three commenting systems offer exporting of comments, only Disqus lets you import those exported comments into their system. So for instance, although I might not have comments synch up with blogger for most of my post using JS, I can export the comments from JS and import it into Disqus and still have it appear on my post.

I was, however, not able to use Disqus here on this blog because it is too heavily customised and Disqus was not able to patch it for me.

You see the dilemma?

Currently I am testing Disqus on LJ Life’s Pages. LadyJava Creations, Online Money Chat and Blogger Cats while on Shopping Galore, I have Intense Debate installed. I still have JS-Kit on LadyJava’s Lounge, Being Woman and My Food Paradise.

I am monitoring them all closely and would update you with my decision soon.

Cheerio…
