The idea of being a blogger and being private doesn’t sound right. To stand out from the crowd, you have to be real and relatable and to do that you need to be a person of the people. Faceless corporations can’t appeal to the same base because they aren’t living in the real world according to consumers. The problem is that blogging is a personal platform which puts your details, as well as your thoughts and feelings, out into the public domain. Now, you won’t be totally off the grid, but the following tips can limit your exposure. Here’s what to do if you’re a privacy-conscious person.

Contact Details

Don’t feel as if you have to list every contact detail known to the human race. Yes, it’s better to have a variety of mediums on a site, yet it’s down to the individual. Usually, an email address will suffice because followers don’t need to phone or text to get in touch. Plus, you can converse via the comments section or online through social media. Just be sure to separate the blog’s accounts from your personal ones. Too many bloggers use their real names, and that makes it easier to identify an individual.

Business Address

A second option is to forego using individual details altogether. Instead, you can opt for a virtual mail address which uses a business street name and zip code. It’s perfectly legal, by the way. The benefits include making the blog seem more professional than using a Gmail account, for example. However, the best advantage is the buffer between you and the audience as they will only be able to get in touch via mail. Seen as everything gets scanned and forwarded to you, it’s easy to operate from anywhere in the world, too.

Pen Name

There isn’t a law which says you have to publish material under your birth name. Plenty of authors, actors and musicians use pen or stage personas to guard their privacy. Granted, it also adds to the mystery, but that is a by-product. All you have to do is think of a cool and completely unrelated title that lures in readers. If you want to commit fully, the blog can center on the theme and the content can link also. Look at the way Anonymous gained a huge following and compare it to the trouble Julian Assange is in at the moment.

Plea Bargain

Naïve though it may be, you shouldn’t dismiss a proper conversation with your followers as an option. The fact that they are interested in you is a sign of their loyalty and dedication. Still, it doesn’t mean they won’t back off if the attention gets too much. The internet isn’t renowned for being a vehicle for well-rounded people with pertinent ideas. But, they do exist even on the Web and they will listen. Just ask for a little extra privacy and explain the reasons why and the heat should die down.

As a blogger, how do you segregate your personal life from your professional one?

Everybody wants to be heard, but it can be challenging to get people to listen. For bloggers, this can be a nightmare if you are wanting to get your content out into the world and start building up an extensive portfolio of knowledge. The world of blogging has become oversaturated, with everyone and their dog seemingly creating content and publishing it in online. It is just the minority that is heard.

If you are a blogger, whether it be text or video, how are you able to ensure that your content rises to the top? How can you ensure that people will click on your links over the one thousand or so other blogs with exactly the same subject matter?

It can be difficult to find a niche that sets you apart from others. The phrase ‘one in a million’ doesn’t seem so unique when there are seven and a half billion of us in the world, and so it is only natural to find at least one person that shares similar interests and experiences to you.

ENGAGE

The key to any blogging success is to engage the reader early on. This is the first thing that writing students learn about when crafting their first novel or short story. If the initial interaction from outside doesn’t inspire interest, then it is unlikely that anything else will.

For this reason, it is vital to have an eye-catching website. In the past, launching a website was a tricky and sometimes expensive process, but in recent years it has become possible for anybody to have their own website.

Website builders allow users to forego employing web developers and programmers and instead give you all the power right there at the tips of your fingers. The process is simple, straightforward and will leave your readers’ feeling that you know what you’re doing. It’s a cliche that first impressions matter, but it’s a cliche for a reason.

KNOW YOURSELF AND YOUR AUDIENCE

Knowing both why you are writing and who you are writing for will give your blog posts more of a purpose. It can be all too convenient just to throw whatever you feel like it onto a webpage and click publish if it makes sense to you. But for your readers, particularly new readers, this can bring about confusion, along with feelings that perhaps this is not the right place to be looking.

To tackle these sorts of problems, settle on your niche early on. If this is is a bit of a struggle, consider what it is you are passionate about. While your passion may not be what you decide to blog about eventually, it can be a good start to figuring out how you want to present yourself online.

Like most new hobbies, these things take time. It will be a while before everything is fine-tuned the way you want it, so consider these early days practice; a learning curve of sorts. You might be enormously passionate about a new TV show, but if there isn’t enough to write about, then you will soon run into some problems.

Furthermore, these early posts will allow you to get to know your audience. This is especially true if you have a commenting feature on your website, where readers can voice their likes and dislikes, as well as adding suggestions for future blog posts. This will give an immediate idea of the type of audience you are attracting and allow you to cultivate your content to suit that.

SAY SOMETHING

Of course, that isn’t to say you should let your audience dictate your content. Hopefully, many of them will have similar interests to you, and so much of what is written and suggested will keep in line with the vision you have in mind.

One of the major mistakes of many bloggers is blogging for the sake of blogging. There are simply too many people writing the same sort of thing over and over and over again that in the end it just looks like one blog has stolen from another and so on along with a long chain of content.

If you want to stand out, you need to discuss topics and ideas that haven’t been covered extensively. This might be hard, but for a professional blogger, creating compelling content is what you do. Nobody wants to read what has already been written before, and rehashing the same old knowledge will do nothing but put readers off and drive them away.

BE SOCIABLE

It is not enough to simply have a blog. For new bloggers, you might wonder how exactly anyone else will find it. This is where the joys of social media come in. Back in the day, all there we had was MySpace, a very early Facebook and forums if you wanted to promote your web content.

But now, the world of social media has changed. There are so many different platforms for you to promote yourself that it would take up too much room to list them all. The obvious ones, such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram are a great place to start as you more than likely already have a solid following of friends, family, and strangers that will be intrigued by any promotion you post.

From here, you can begin to build a user base. Friends will tell other friends, strangers will tell other strangers, and after a while, you will soon see more traffic, more likes, and more shares than you’ll know what to do with. Once this is established, it is up to you to keep hold of these readers.

COLLABORATE

Even in a world as competitive as blogging, it still pays to collaborate with other bloggers to further promote your brand. Working with like-minded people through giveaways, co-authoring posts, and guest appearances will unveil you to a brand new audience.

These collaborations can be with friends who also blog, as well as bloggers who you’ve been reading for some time and already admire. Sharing content can lead to a broader audience base and hopefully propel your blog towards more and more visitors as the chain of collaboration stretches.

By choosing to work alongside established bloggers, you will not only be getting more views but also be able to learn from those who already have experience in working towards more readers. This kind of advice can be invaluable if you want to spread your brand further than just a few friends on the internet and can give you the opportunity to make a name for yourself in the blogging world.

It can be a difficult start to your blogging career. All those previous worries about not having anything interesting to say will soon seem to become a reality once you find that there is little to no traffic on your blog. During this time, it is essential not to get discouraged and keep pushing on. But also, you need to take a look at what sort of content you are posting, as simple words on a webpage are not enough. There needs to be a level of engagement for the reader. Topics like ‘Winter Style Ideas’, or ‘Quick and Cutesy DIY Projects’ have been done to death.

Instead, go further out there. Find something that people aren’t talking about and just write. It may be complicated at first to find something unique in a world where a new blog post is seemingly made every five seconds, but once that first post is out you will find yourself flush with inspiration. Who knows, perhaps the very idea of looking for interesting content can inspire a blog post in the future.

With a lot of people carrying around their smartphones and working on computers all day, everything is moving towards digitalization. Making a website has become very important for every company, group, or individual that wants to get attention and influence others. Once you get website hosting, you’ll need to know how to set up your website to make it as interesting and easy to use as possible.

Designing Your Website

As you design your website, consider the people that will be using it. What information do they need to know? What will be most interesting to them? You want to cater your site to the people that will be visiting it most often, and whoever you are trying to influence. Once you decide what content should be on the site, you will need to organize it. Though you may be tempted to add a lot of different things, it is actually better to keep your website simple. It will not overwhelm people and will allow them to navigate easily. Keep in mind that people do not want to read a lot; if you have a huge chunk of text, they will likely skip over it. Say what you need to say in the least amount of words possible.

When you want something to stand out, use color or size to help it pop. You can put videos and photos on your site to keep it interesting. Give the site some variety so that users have something interesting to look at with these tools and with other helpful things. Photos and videos can also be very helpful and a great way at giving the information you need to share while keeping people engaged.

Hosting a Website

When you look for website hosting, you’ll need to find a company that is willing to help you as much as possible. Your website should be able to handle a good amount of traffic, and there should be good customer service with the company. Setting up a website can be complicated so you will need the help of professionals to figure things out and make it the best it can possibly be.

I am officially removing my entrecard widget from my blogs today. Based on this blog entry, it looks like Entrecard is really dead people. It’s been good while it lasted but I guess all good (or bad.. depending on how you look at it) things must come to an end. I wonder if there will ever be something similar.. Remember CMF, remember Adgitize.. they all didn’t last long either..

Anyone found a replacement program yet? Let me know ok!

Updated Post: Yeap,.. Entrecard is DEAD

Azwaj was reformatting my pc when I returned from my Singapore trip last Friday. Apparently I had tons of spyware or malware or something ware that is causing my pc to slow down in terms of performance and causing my chrome browser to crash ever so often so much so that even to  load a page to find dragonfly yoga mats for instance can take forever! Anyway, lucky for me I brought home my laptop Miss Fly and was able to work in the dining area.

entrecard

I enjoyed working outside the home office sometimes. It is much cooler in the dining area and I can watch tv and play with the kitties as I work. Since there wasn’t any work which was in dire need of attention, I decided that I will go on my Entrecard rounds. I managed two days of “dropping” and I was very pleased with myself. Unfortunately on the third day, Entrecard site stopped working and all widgets were no longer showing ads and the “DROP” button.

I have no idea what is going on. Some people are saying that this is the end of Entrecard. Some bloggers have even removed the widget as they say it is causing their site to load slower. As for me, I’ll give it a few more days and see the outcome.

easy-web-hostingI learned a thing or two when I upgraded my current WordPress to the latest version.

Firstly the most apparent was that that I was not able to view or compose post. When using Firefox, the box was there but the text was like there on minute and disappear the next. I checked with another browser,  Chrome,  and all was fine, so at least I didn’t panic.

Then as I was checking out the new options available, I got an error saying that my blog was not available. Now I started to panic. It said something about “wp-config” config error. My first instinct was to google for a solution but since this was urgent and I didn’t want any downtime, I contacted my web hosting company instead via their chat and I was lucky enough to get one very helpful chap. He checked my url and after looking at the files via ftp, he noticed that the permission level was altered. I was puzzled and still am till now how that happened but he offered to change the permission setting back to the correct one which is 755.

Anyway, I upgraded another one of my blogs today and the only problem I still see is the disappearing blog post on compose mode so I reckon I will wait before upgrading the rest of my blogs.

The moral of the story? Wait for the latest version of WordPress to stabilize before upgrading, the next is to get a great hosting company with a great chat service. Find some great hosting review and choose from the top hosting company only.

Yeap, you heard me right. My #unifi is down again! I am so over the roof and by the 5th time, I refuse to do anymore troubleshooting with them over the phone and instead ask them to look through my numerous service numbers and just get the problem fixed!

Anyway, I got a new toy this weekend and I am so loving it. I will blog about it when I am in a better mood and when my #unifi connection, hopefully, up again later today. In the meantime, I think I will just do some online window shopping with my loyal Digi prepaid connection and of course my laptop, Miss Fly, without which I couldn’t be tethering… lol.. I spy some nice kelty backpacks from the corner of my eye.. see ya!

prAnd as the entry suggest.. let’s all see how we fare this time around.

LadyJava’s Lounge is now a beautiful 3 while Life’s Pages remains a two. The kitty blog dropped to where it was before its previous 3. Due to lack of updates on LadyJava Creations, it is now a modest 3. Both my blogspot blogs over at my make money blog and food blog dropped to a two while my woman blog remain beautiful at 0..lol! If my shopping blog ever dropped to zero, I might close it but for now it remains alive at 1. I am happy to say that my latest new love blog has a spanking new rank of one.

How has everyone fare? Check your pagerank and share with us ok :)

Source codes are naughty aren’t they? They give out all sorts of information about the blog and the blog owner. However if you got nothing to hide, then there is nothing to worry about right? That being said, this is what this blog entry is all about.

You know how sometimes you want to write about something but the time is just not right? You’re just too busy, you are distracted with life or something always happens that put that issue at the back burner. Well I got a little time on my hands presently and I think now is the right time as any to write this post.

Sometime ago, a blogger attacked me for no reason. He suddenly started analyzing my blog loading speed, spread malicious claims that I force visitors to listen to ads while waiting for my comment section to load and accused me and my circle of friends of cheating on giveaways and contests that we organized. I retaliated by sending him out a plea for him to never visit my sites and to stay away from me and my blogs.  Soon after another incident, I published another blog post exposing what a coward he is when he amended his malicious post about me and my friends to a somewhat innocent entry at his livejournal blog.

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, I am referring to the Dave Lucas or otherwise known as The Troll.  You see, I discovered that this Troll has another blog that he blogged anonymously under. He won this blog in a contest and wanted to remain anonymous to the point that the former owner of the blog during the announcement didn’t even let the other participants know who won! Weird? Funny? I though so..

Winner Not Announced?

Winner Not Announced?

Yeap.. The Troll is now blogging using the handle “The Twitterer” and he has joined Music Monday! Music Monday, my beloved meme that I created and one that has given him traffic each time he joins! So.. no more I tell you!

How do I know he is who I say he is?

I was looking through my blog to check for broken links and things when I noticed my “Friends of LadyJava” page was empty! I had no idea why until I check my blogroll service provider called Blogrolling dot com and found out that they have ceased operations.

So, here I am … back to collecting my fav sites again… and if you have my links on your blog, please let me know and I’ll add you up. Also I would appreciate if you could make sure LadyJava Lounge links to http://javaura.com and not the previous url..

Thanks so much!

I didn’t know much when I first started blogging. All I knew was I wanted to blog and the easiest platform to start blogging on was on blogger dot com… plus it was free so that pretty much sealed the deal. Then the blogging got addictive. From one blog I suddenly had two and three and till now the final number (I think) at last count was nine. Not all my blogs are up to date though. I try to update as much as possible but sometimes blogging all the time is tiring and all I want to do is NOT blog.. lol!..

bloggingThat is one of the reason why I moved to WordPress. I needed a new a challenge. I wanted to see what WordPress offered as a blogging platform. However to do that, I needed my own hosting. So I went around to web hosting reviews site to look for any web hosting provider reviews. I thank GOD I found WebHostingRating dot com. At the site I not only found recommendations for best web hosting but I also found fantastic articles that give me advice on what to avoid before getting web hosting. For example, some of us might be tempted to get cheap hosting just because it’s cheap when in reality sometimes cheap does not always means it’s good. We must instead focus on the reliability of the hosting company itself in terms of customer support, downtime and security. I also found out what the difference is between windows and linux hosting packages for example. The site also offers tips and techniques on how to optimize your hosting like ways to use web site analytics for more traffic and how to boost your search engine traffic.

I am happy with my current hosting now for sure as I am happy blogging with WordPress. Having said that I am also happy with blogger dot com too and in fact still uses it for two of my blogs. In the end, it doesn’t really matter where you blog, as long as you enjoy blogging and know how to keep it fun, non-tiring and challenging :)

Happy blogging!

Before I proceed to start cleaning my ceiling fans , I just wanted to let you guys know of an email I got yesterday and what looks like a potential phishing attempt on my paypal account. I received three similar emails all saying that someone has paid me USD8 to an email account that is registered to me. The email says for me to register a paypal account to that email address or if I already had a paypal account to add that email address to my existing paypal account.

I would think anyone would be tempted to receive such payment but PLEASE do not act on this email. Although the email looks legit and points to the paypal site, I believe there is a way for this people to get access to your account after you act on this email. So don’t be greedy and lose all your money for a meagre USD24 ok :)

I am drawing a blank currently on how to increase PR for this blog. It has dropped to PR0 over the last few days and I suspect it’s because of the change of url in September causing all existing backlinks to LJL to be gone. I am hoping it will come back again soon and am planning to use some seo tools to help get my PR3 rank again.

Wish me luck!

I am so loving my pressies from Emila and Mariuca from the night. I won two of Marzie‘s contest that she had when she went on vacation and Emila‘s gift of her special notebook and her awesome children’s book, “My Mother’s Garden”, really made great souvenirs from the night. I gave out pressies too that night.  Nothing fancy that requires me to take out payday advance loan or anything but I hope everyone enjoyed their little touch of Singapore :)
