Here’s some good news for early birds.. or those striving to be early birds in Singapore. From 24th June 2013 onwards, The Land Transport Authority (LTA) will embark on a one-year trial program to encourage MRT travelers to travel early and arrive before 7.45am on weekdays to 16 designated MRT stations in the city area.

According to Singapore Promotion.com, the stations designated are:
Bugis, Chinatown, City Hall, Clarke Quay, Dhoby Ghaut, Lavender, Orchard, Outram Park, Raffles Place, Somerset, Tanjong Pagar, Bayfront, Bras Basah, Esplanade, Marian Bay and Promenade. Commuters must exit at any of the 16 designated stations in the city area by 7.45am on Monday to Fridays by (excluding public holidays) for that portion of the travel to be free.

I think that this is a great move to try to ease congestion during the peak period. Way to go Singapore!

I can’t believe it’s been two months since I’ve visited my mom. I sure missed her and I can’t wait to go back home to Singapore and spend some quality time with her. Mommy told me that she will taking a week off from manning her food store so we can have more time together and so I have planned a whole week of activity to enjoy with her including a facial treatment and of course shopping.

This time around I am looking for a leather wallet like the one I can find at Saddlebackleather dot com but if I can’t find anything that come close to the one I like from the site, I may very well just get it from there.. Of course shopping is awesome no matter what and I am sure I will bring home some awesome stuff.

I am also looking forward to seeing for myself the gift I won from the Sheba Catwalk contest that I joined last year. They delivered it in January and mommy said there are like 30 boxes of them.. OMG right? I hope to bring home as much as possible so that the kitties can start enjoying their free and delicious cat food.

Singapore.. here I come!

I saw this foldable hanger at a local store in Singapore and its price was only SGD7.99. Cheap and good for apartment living for sure. So I told mom about it and she immediately wanted one.. Just as well coz there was only one left! Anyway, don’t you think it’s just awesome. I mean I’ve ever seen the normal round ones that typically people use for underwear but this one made for anything you can hang. I love it!

Just thought I share this information with my readers…

Apparently starting from 1st July, STD or Subscriber Trunk Dialing,  can no longer be used with Digi.. so make sure you use the IDD dialing protocol to get connected to Singapore :)

serving-meds

.. while she is dispensing the meds for the patients that is..

Nowadays hospitals in Singapore are all so modern and well equipped with the latest gadgets. For example during my previous ward stay, I noticed all the nurses wheeling their healthcare carts for all their rounds. They have one for when they are dispensing of meds, one for recording of temperature and blood pressure and another for when they go rounds with the respective doctors. I don’t know about you but it sure makes me feel secure and safe that my data are consolidated in one database eh.

TPJC

TPJC - My class

My junior college is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year and it has organised a high tea reception today. In fact it might still be going on right now. Unfortunately due to my hectic schedule, I had to give it a miss and I reckon it’s a good thing too cause how to get rid of whiteheads is the last thing on my mind right now…lol!

I hope to see lots of pictures on facebook tonight when fellow TPJCians upload them. Can’t wait to see how everyone has aged.. ehehhe

massaging chair

Getting My Massage on the Coach

Gonna be one busy bee this month with checkup and pre-ops and my surgery on the 16th. I will be travelling like mad to and fro to Singapore. Many asked why not just do the surgery in Malaysia and avoid all this travelling hassle but let me tell you this.. (and this is not to offend any doctors here in Malaysia) I just feel like the doctors in Singapore care and listen a lot more. They are not obsessed with things that are not in my mind but instead addressed the issues that I AM worried about. And although I went in with the referral by our polyclinic, which means I am on subsidized rates, I don’t feel like they are giving me second class treatment or second class service. They treat everyone the same and money is not the issue.

So while I have to put my vacation and those hot tub covers on hold for a while, I am just glad that once this is all over, I have something great to look forward to.

singapore budget 2011I received a tweet from my cousin telling me that the Singapore 2011 Budget is out and that as part of the Grow & Share’ Package, Singaporeans are getting a share from the fruits of last year’s exceptional economic growth and yes, that means I get money! lol!

Here are some of the areas where we, as Singaporean individuals, will enjoy the benefit:

  1. Workfare Special Bonus ($224 million in FY2011, $226 million over 2 years thereafter)
  2. Personal Income Tax Rebate
  3. Child Development Credit
  4. Top up to CPF Medisave Accounts for Seniors (which means mommy will get extra money in her medisave account)
  5. Growth Dividends (I will get SGD800 big ones.. yihaa!!)
  6. Utilities-Save and Service and Conservancy Charges Rebates (a savings of SGD360 in household water and electric bill for me)

PS: The amount differ for individuals as it depends on the kind of HDB housing we live in ~ the bigger your apartment is, the lesser you get.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE being a Singaporean.. heheh

As you must know from the lack of update on my blogs and twitter account, that I am away from home and without my laptop Miss Fly no less. I was hoping my G8 phone would be able to let me go online in Singapore but alas I was not able to get it to connect even after entering all the correct information.. so I resorted to plan B which was to try to see if my ever loyal Sony Ericsson K850i phone could the job and you know what.. I’m in love with it again because as of last night I was able to access my Gmail, update twitter and even check facebook.. though of course my online activities are limited because of the limitation of mobile phone surfing and because I’m so used to Qwerty pad and my SE don’t have that :(

However.. I’m still a happy camper as I’m still able to access my email and still be in contact with my clients until I return this weekend :)

In the meantime, am having a fantastic time here shopping (everything here is on sale that if I had a room of my own I would have already have furnished it with modern office furniture .. lol), eating (oopss) and spending time with mommy.

See you all soon.. miss me much?

Today’s wedding was awesome. It was so great to see all the familiar faces of aunts and cousins and the not so familiar faces of nieces and nephews. Can’t believe that some of my cousins are already grandma and grandma, making me indirectly a grandma too!.. OMG! Time to slap on that wrinkle cream.. lol!

Here are some pictures from the wedding.. It’s not that good as I am just using my camera phone :(

I love cleaning out my old emails as not only do I get priceless pictures like the ones below, I also get reminded of awesome offers from great sites that offers brands like Panerai watches.

In Singapore, when we withdraw money from the ATM machines, we are encourage to cover the keypad as we enter our pin number. Make sense of course and especially here in Malaysia where people can really be inconsiderate and like stand very close behind you as you make your transaction.

However, I seriously think these people are taking security to a whole new limit… lol….

Singapore is celebrating it’s 45th birthday this year on Monday, 9th. If you’re an overseas Singaporean like me, then here are some activities you can do to celebrate our nations’ birthday.

  1. Catch the “live” webcast of this year’s National Day Parade (NDP) at the Padang on www.ndp.org.sg (9 Aug, 1730hrs to 2025hrs Singapore time). Watch the Mobile Column roll past the Padang and the heartland celebrations “live” at Bishan, Sengkang, Eunos, Woodlands and Choa Chu Kang. The video will be available for viewing on the website for a month till 9 Sep.
  2. Catch up on the latest NDP 2010 happenings on Facebook @ NDPeeps, http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/NDPeeps/89175368528?ref=ts
  3. Take part in the “Live our dreams, Fly Our flag” campaign @ www.ndp.org.sg/lodfof
  4. Listen to Corrine May’s “Song for Singapore” @ http://www.ndp.org.sg/articles_main.php?article=themeSong&id=media
  5. Share your birthday wishes for Singapore on www.ndp.org.sg/birthdaywishes!

… with a tissue pack of course…lol!

I’m not sure about you but this is very much a culture in Singapore lifestyle. I remembered back when I was living in Singapore, I always made sure I had a pack of tissue or the papers to “reserve” my seat at the hawker center while I order my lunch. It was understood that if you see a pack of tissue or the papers on the seat, than that place is reserved and you just move on and look for an empty one. This habit had become so instilled in me that I took it for granted that everyone does it around the world.

tissue on seat

How To "Chop" Seats in Singapore

So the story began, and this was a long time ago, mind you. We were on our way to Ipoh and made a stopover at Tapah. As usual that rest stop is always crowded. So after making a quick stop to the restroom, which would have been a more desirable experience if it had been a Saniflo toilet,  Azwaj went to grab his food. I, totally done without malice and innocently I might add, took out a pack of tissue and put it on the chair he had been sitting on before. I took out another one and put it on my chair and happily went to see what the stall had to offer. My hubby was puzzled at first to see me standing with him and he asked me who’s taking care of the seat so I told him, “Don’t worry, put tissue already”. He kept quiet (now I know why, coz he did not understand!). Anyway, after paying for the food I led him to “our” seat and lo and behold, there was another couple there already having their meal. I looked at my hubby and I told him “hmm some people just don’t have manners”. Not wanting to create a scene, we looked around for another table.

After we found another one, my hubby asked me what I meant by “people not having manners”. I explained to him about the tissue. He kept quiet at first and then he gave me this guttural laugh that had everyone looking at us… He then told me, “NO ONE DOES THAT IN MALAYSIA! The pack of tissue did not mean a thing there except probably you dropped it or something”. I looked at him at go “huh?.

Then it hit me!..It’s Uniquely Singapore!

I guess what they say is true.. you can take me away  from Singapore but you can’t take the Singapore away from me!

It’s been 4 years now since my permanent residence application and the last time I heard from the immigration department was when I called in 2008 and they told me to call in 2years time! It utterly rendered me speechless!

So I decided to call them today and though they didn’t tell me to call back in another two years, they asked me a lot of questions on how long I’ve applied etc,  and at the end of the conversation, the officer told me to check online instead to see the status of my application. I immediately went to their site which has terrible navigation. I think it would be easier to apply for insurance for business in Hawaii! After locating the link and entering my reference number, I was once again utterly speechless. Suffice to say, I’m still waiting :(

Sometimes I wish I don’t care but I do. Why? Well, because firstly, I like to feel that I somehow belong in this country I call home. Secondly, as I get older and probably my medical need would increase, I need that blue identification card to get “resident” fee as and when I need medical care. I mean, if I was working here in Malaysia right now, I wouldn’t even qualify for the company’s rates for group health or these providers of group health would probably charge the company a hand and a foot to get me included, simply because I have a Singapore identification card.

As for my Singapore “Medisave” account, though I have funds there, I can only use it if I was hospitalized in Singapore hospitalized. Sucks? You betcha!

This was a video I found on youtube on Singapore’s recent Flood (16th June 2010) and since Singapore hardly gets flood especially in Orchard Road, I reckon it’s history in the making so it just has to make it to LJL pages.. From the video you’ll see that most Singaporeans have no experience with flood whatsoever. They sure look like they don’t know what to do and check out the man trying to get into his store at the end of the video, perhaps trying to save his petty cash or rustic furniture? Poor thing, I wonder if the policman will help him. Who knows?

Have a great weekend all!

I was back in Singapore a few days ago and it was hot. So hot that I had to use umbrella when walking long distance. So much to my surprise when I  was speaking to mommy on the phone today and she told me it’s has been raining non-stop in Singapore since yesterday and it seems some parts of Singapore were greatly hit by freak flood.

One of the areas? Orchard Road, Singapore bustling area with citizens and tourists, was knee deep in water! Check out some of the pictures that I got from all over the web on this hot topic!

In case you’re wondering, this incident doesn’t happen much in Singapore thus the big hoo-haa everywhere.. lol!

We went back to Parkway Parade today as I forgot to buy some supplements that I needed before I go back to KL tomorrow. On the way out, mommy and I saw these little girls being photographed as little princess. Initially we thought it was a photoshoot or something but there was a whole line of little girls queuing up. Then I saw the sign, Disney Royal Moments. The girls were all queuing up to be little princess. They will be made up by make up artist with even their hair all done up. Then they would pick a dress, wear a tiara and for the photoshoot, they have a choice of two background scene, the carriage and the dance floor.

I couldn’t resist taking pictures of the whole process. I think it’s awesome and so if you have a little girl, and around Parkway Parade, check it out ok!
